Series 6 Sprint Pod: Beyond your own potential - Running Blog

The Pyllon Ultra Pod, Blog! - Sprint Series 2

This is new. They call it a companion piece. Who they are is not important. Not much is really important. Beyond health and happiness what really matters, eh?

And when you think about it most of what we do is in pursuit of these two things.

But, I digress. That is not the point of this blog. No, this blog is to help deepen learning of the Pyllon Ultra Podcast Sprint series and is a companion piece to the 1st episode.

A reminder: the pod sprint series is 5-6 short episodes focusing on a particular topic. The first sprints were on Thought Biases. The finale of that series can be listened to here. It is worth some of your time to get a feel for the sprints. You can also listen on Apple and Spotify.

The topic of conversation

This series Paul and James will be looking at CONFIDENCE. In Episode 1 of this new sprint Paul takes some time to introduce some of the subtleties between belief and confidence. There’s a few thoughts to ponder over for you, the listener, and indeed, the reader.

The points around anxiety and nerves certainly seem to have struck a chord based on the feedback since it launched at the weekend. In our furiously busy and fast lives we face everything head on and perpetual motion is just that, and it is only getting more pacey.

But, just like in training, you have to periodise your efforts. Peaking and recovering in a clever and considered manner. And confidence can be curated. Usually for some it is evidence based, and for others it can innate. It doesn’t matter where it comes from. Knowing how to cultivate it and not be a slave to its rhymes, reasons and rhythms is a powerful place to be.

Tantalisingly, isn’t it?

We can’t pretend to be getting to this depth in the sprint this week but it is the direction of travel we are setting out on. And, most importantly, we want you to come with us, but with the intent of foraging your own path and direction.

There’s more than 16 personalities, no matter what Myers Briggs and all those usefully useless psychometric tests tell you. There’s billions and you are one of them. You are the architect of your own systems of belief and confidence.

So, give episode 1 a listen, engage your brain and critically appraise yourself and us as we embark on this journey. Don’t expect all the answers. Hell, you may not even get any! What you will get are some questions and some thought provoking threads to pull at.

We believe that working on your confidence can have a positive impact on athlete performance and loving life. In fact, we are confident it can. Start by being curious, critical and challenging.

See where it takes you!
