Day 1 Update - Endeavour

AFTER 16 HOURS OF RUNNING, HERE’S WHAT IS HAPPENING

Pyllon Head Coach Paul Giblin led the team off at midnight. With 4 hours of darkness to contend with the hope was for good weather conditions. However as the temperature dropped icy conditions developed making things trickier than he would have liked. Despite this Paul stayed upright and by 4am had logged an impressive 31.11 miles and 2431 feet of ascent- a great start to the challenge.

The virtual baton was handed over to James Stewart for Leg 2. James is no stranger to a 4am start and headed up the infamous Tak ma doon road for a bit of early ascent but had to adjust his planned route due to icy conditions in Carron Valley. Meanwhile he made good use of his four hour running time listening to HG Wells War of the worlds. Like Paul, James finished on 31.1 miles while gaining 2376feet of ascent.

Leg 3 was ran by Grant MacDonald who was glad to get a more civilised start time of 8 o’clock. Grant’s plan was to make the most of some steep local hills to get as much ascent in the bank as possible. Utilising a 1 mile climb out of Lennoxtown Grant hill repped his way to 29.5 miles and 4972 feet of ascent.

Getting the last daylight of day 1 Chris Cowley utilised his Spaniel super powers to scamper round an icy Fetteresso forest to hit a leg 4 distance of 30.1 miles and 3964 feet of ascent. All this despite an ice spike malfunction at 18 miles which left him gripless on one foot.

At the end of leg 4 Totals are sitting as follows:

Hours run: 16

Distance run: 122.1 miles (target 95.2)

Elevation Gain: 13,991 feet (target 9,524 feet)

A strong start but a long way to go.

We will be running for 168 hours straight - so feel free to send some messages of support at any time. It’ll make all the difference at 2 in the morning to know someone is following!

  • SHARE: clearly we cannot get together in person, so if you do want to support us please share our messages, leave comments and likes on social media and let others know more about why we are doing this challenge
